Mevagissey Harbour Watercolour Painting
Share
Here is my latest watercolour of Mevagissey Harbour in Cornwall. I always enjoy painting this lovely spot because it has such a calm mood and great light. On this day the sun was quite soft, so I kept the sky pale and warm. I used a mix of ultramarine blue with a touch of burnt sienna for the distant buildings and shadows. The boats gave me a chance to add small touches of bright colour, especially the pink fenders and the strong blues in the reflections.
The reflections were the main focus for me. I let the paint flow and kept the brushstrokes loose so the water feels alive. The boats sit nicely against the darker tones of the harbour wall, which helps the scene feel balanced and full of depth. I also enjoyed adding the figure on the left. Just a simple shape, but it gives the painting a gentle story and leads the eye into the composition.
This painting will soon be a full demo video on my YouTube channel, where I will show my process step by step. If you enjoy seeing how I build up layers, mix colours and simplify the scene, you might like to watch it when it comes out. The original painting is for sale, so please contact me if you would like more information.
