In Person Workshops

Join me for a friendly one day in person watercolour workshop at my place in Chipping Sodbury near Bristol in the UK. Paint along with me as I show each stage of my watercolour painting process in a clear and simple way. This is a relaxed day for learning, painting and having a nice time with a small group. It is perfect for a day out if you enjoy watercolour and want to grow confidence.

I am a full time watercolour painter and tutor with many years of teaching. I share hundreds of demos and run regular online and in person events. I give kind and practical feedback, and I explain everything step by step so it is easy to follow.

We paint from clear photo references and cover a landscape, a seascape or a street scene. We normally complete two paintings in the day, with time at the end for a gentle review and simple tips to take home. I focus on values, composition, soft and hard edges, big shapes, and how to keep a painting loose and fresh.

These workshops are for most levels except absolute beginners. If you have some basic experience and want to improve, this is for you. Class size is small, usually under six, so everyone gets space and personal help. There is ample spacing between attendees for comfort and a calm room to work in.

Please bring your own materials including paper, brushes, paints, a board, masking tape, tissue and any easel if you use one. Bring a sketchbook if you like to test mixes and warm up. I provide clean water, the space and the inspiration. When I paint, I use my usual palette of colours which are neutral tint, burnt umber, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, viridian green, spring green or a bright green, cobalt green, cerulean blue, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, lavender, alizarin crimson, cadmium red, light red, cadmium yellow, white paint for highlights, and sometimes quinacridone gold.

A typical day runs from 10 am to 4 pm with arrival from 9.45 am. A light lunch is provided, with tea and coffee available through the day. We take short breaks between stages so everyone stays fresh and focused.

My studio is in Chipping Sodbury near Bristol in South Gloucestershire. There is parking on site. The nearest railway station is Yate. It is a short bus or taxi ride from Yate to Chipping Sodbury.
