Painting the Great Iguazu Falls in Argentina

Painting the Great Iguazu Falls in Argentina

Happy to share my new painting of the Iguazu Falls in Argentina. This was a special project for January. I painted this during a live demo with my lovely Patreon members. It was a great way to start the new year by painting such a famous and beautiful place. We all sat down together online to paint this scene step by step.

The falls are very big and have so much moving water. To show the deep water at the bottom, I used a mix of Ultramarine Blue and Viridian Green. I left the white of the paper to show the splashing water of the falls. For the dark shadows on the rocks, I used Burnt Sienna and a bit of Neutral Tint. This helps the bright water look even more white and powerful.

I really enjoy these live paint along sessions because I can help my students in real time. We talk about how to keep the paint looking fresh.
