Puerto Deportivo of Marbella

Puerto Deportivo of Marbella

The Puerto Deportivo in Marbella. The sun was bright and the water looked beautiful. I wanted to capture the feeling of the busy harbour without painting every single detail. It is a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

When I painted the boats, I tried to keep the shapes very loose. I did not want them to look too stiff or perfect. I used plenty of white paint to keep the tops of the boats looking bright in the sun. I think it is important to let the watercolours flow and not worry too much about straight lines.

I also focused on pushing the contrast in this piece. I used dark blues like Ultramarine and a bit of Neutral Tint for the deep shadows in the water. This makes the white boats stand out even more. The mix of Cerulean Blue and Cobalt Blue helps to show the different depths of the sea. It was fun to play with these cool colours against the warm light.
