I painted this one from a favourite walk near me in Ridge Woods. My source photo below shows a sunny path with those lovely dappled shadows, so I thought it would make a good exercise in painting a wood scene and the pattern of shadows.
Why I chose it I love simple paths that lead the eye into the distance. Big tree trunks, a bright gap ahead up the path, and broken light on the ground are perfect subjects for watercolour. It is also a good scene for practising values and edges, especially on the shadow shapes.
